Ackerman Institute for the Family — 65th Anniversary Gala

THE CLIENT

Founded in 1960, the Ackerman Institute for the Family is one of America's premier institutions for family therapy and one of the most highly regarded training facilities for family therapists in the United States. The Institute serves families from all walks of life at all stages of family life.

THE CHALLENGE

Ackerman was preparing for its most significant event in decades — a 65th anniversary gala requiring a film that could move donors, honor six decades of impact, and meet an ambitious fundraising goal. There was an additional layer of complexity: Ackerman works with sensitive populations, making traditional client storytelling approaches impossible. They needed a creative partner who could navigate that challenge without compromising the integrity of their mission or the privacy of the families they serve.

THE APPROACH

I led the full production on a tight deadline, directing my Kori Chambers Media production team while working directly with Frederica Wald, Chief of Staff & Chief Development & Strategy Officer:

● Developed the concept and narrative framework in close collaboration with the development and strategy team● Navigated the sensitivity of working with vulnerable populations by developing a creative approach that told Ackerman's story through staff interviews, leadership perspectives, training footage, and archival material dating back to 1965 — honoring the organization's legacy without compromising the privacy of the families they serve● Led my production crew on location at Ackerman's offices, overseeing all aspects of the shoot● Directed post-production through multiple rounds of revisions in close partnership with the development and strategy team● Delivered the final film ahead of deadline● Collaborated closely with the development and strategy team to shape the program for the evening, crafting my own remarks to set the right tone for the night● Emceed the evening at the JW Marriott Essex House

THE RESULT

Ackerman met its ambitious fundraising goal for their landmark 65th anniversary celebration.

IN THEIR WORDS

"Collaborating with Kori Chambers on Ackerman's 65th Anniversary Gala video was an absolutely fantastic experience. From concept to final cut, he captured the heart of Ackerman's mission with professionalism, warmth, and storytelling mastery. The film he wrote, directed, and produced was both moving and inspiring, beautifully conveying our legacy and impact while sparking genuine emotion among our guests. The response was extraordinary — donors, guests, colleagues and supporters were deeply touched, and the video helped propel us to meet our ambitious fundraising goal for the evening. Beyond his artistry, Kori was a delightful collaborator, attentive, imaginative, and completely aligned with our vision every step of the way."
